Laguna Flame Jumps Out of the Picadero

Well, our boy, Laguna Flame, now 6, has some issues with tractors, stemming from his year away with a new owner on a farm. He would jump over 4' 6" metal gates as a yearling to get away from them. He has been back with us for four years without any incident whatsoever. The other day he was in the picadero and our tractor was working nearby, levelling the hardcore in the outdoor arena. He must have had a flashback because the next thing we knew he had leapt over the picadero wall and the ditch behind, landing on top of the old dung pile. He cleared it cleanly and, later, I measured the height at 5'. The ditch behind the wall is 8' deep and the spread from where he took off to the top of the dung pile where his hoofprints showed where he landed is 5' 6". He then leapt off the dung pile, a 5' drop, and galloped around the field, feeling very proud of himself. Maybe he should take up eventing but I don't think my nerves could stand it.

BSJA

Ruby Shy and Laguna Flame have now both been registered with BSJA (British Show Jumping Association). We shall be spending most of our free time now (not that we have much) on the show jumping circuit. If you see us at Rowallan, Ingliston, SNEC, Kingsbarn or Howe EC, please introduce yourself.

Outdoor Arena

At long last we are having a new surface laid on our outdoor arena. The hardcore is down and the silica sand has been delivered. Still researching suitable stabilising materials. Any personal recommendations/contacts gratefully received.

Successful Trip to Trailblazers

Ruby and Leanne had a fab time at Trailblazers. 87 horses and riders started in the 85cm class and 69 started in the 95cm class. Only clear rounds on the first day qualified to take part in the Championship Finals on the second day. Ruby and Leanne had clears in both classes and went through. Yay! Yay! Yay! They also went clear on the second day and were placed, following a thrilling jump off. Way to go, girls! They both even had to jump their first ever triple combination in the final, from both directions!

Artists' Inspiration

We are absolutely ecstatic that two accomplished Scottish Artists have used our horses for their inspiration. Terry Barron Kirkwood has been producing inspiring works based on our boys since 2003. She has also produced a range of ceramic ware with them too as the inspiration. Always a pleasure to catch up with you Terry and see your latest masterpieces. Thank you so much for the Champagne Star originals. We shall always treasure them.

More recently, Greer Ralston asked if she could visit to take photographs for an Arabian head study she was planning to do. We cannot wait to see the finished piece, using Picasso and Showtyme. Thank you Greer for presenting to us a head study of Picasso. It is awesome!

Our Stallions

Our pinto/coloured/cremello Arabian boys are now well known throughout the country, largely due to their showing successes and those of their progeny.

TP Starbuck (Black Tie x TP Mystic Fire) TeePee, as he is affectionately known, started it all off for us. We imported him from the USA in 2002 and he took the show rings by storm in 2003, the only year he was shown. He has consistently sired quality foals that have won at, and qualified for, shows at the highest level, including HOYS, RIHS, CHAPS(UK), BAHPAC, AHS National Championships, Ponies UK, The Scottish Horse Show and The Royal Highland Show. He is also siring top class jumping horses and ponies.

Incandescent Flame (TP Starbuck x Malibu Surfbreaker)

Top class show ring successes, including CHAPS Champion in 2007 and CHAPS Reserve Champion in 2006 and 2008. BAHPAC Champion in 2007 and 2008, Festival of Arabian Champions Supreme Champion in 2007. Graded with CHAPS as a show and jumping stallion. He has now been backed and many are awaiting his debut under saddle. He is proving to be a willing and very easy to handle student. He will be campaigned at the highest level and is destined for great things. Currently, Performance Arabians is seeking a skilled rider to take him to the top, must be able to work him at home as he is not being sent away to a trainer. His welfare is our top priority and he will only leave home to be shown. This is an outstanding opportunity for a rider to take this horse to the major championships in the UK.

AKA Starbuck's Champagne Star (TP Starbuck x Malibu Surfbreaker)
Stunning and charismatic young stallion, with a superb temperament and amazing presence. His unique buckskin tobiano colouring makes him stand out.He is full brother to Incandescent Flame and is gaining a lot of attention with his first foals already on the ground and winning, especially the homozygous filly, AKA Champagne's Dream.

It's Showtyme (Infiniti Z x Hunter's Moon) Imported from Canada, this outstanding young palomino tovero stallion is proving himself as a performance and show stallion of the highest calibre. He is extremely well bred with his grandsire on the sire side being three times US National Champion and the grandsire on the dam side producing 6 World Champions. He has won multiple championships and his youngstock are following in his footsteps. He has commenced his jumping career showing great scope and ability. He has appeared on the cover of Scottish Equestrian Magazine as one of their cover stars.

Roundhills Crystal King (Moonshine Vision x Shulay Coral)
Outstanding young stallion whose first foals are sensational. He is a big boy, standing 16hands with stunning good looks and presence. He has outstanding movement, great limbs and provides the guarantee of palomino foals when bred to chestnut mares. He is a stallion who will breed champions of the future.

Picasso Kossack (Kubinec***** x Popova) Straight Russian Pure bred stallion who carries the sabino gene. He has the rare privilege for a pure bred Arabian of being registered as a coloured horse. Bred in Holland at the famous Kossack Stud, he is by the former World Champion and legendary stallion, Kubinec, and out of the double European Nations' Cup Champion mare, Popova. Picasso has many fans around the world and he has the sweetest temperament. Although he has been shown very little, he has had considerable success in pure bred Arabian, coloured and sports horse classes.

Whispering Chinook is our bay Anglo Arab stallion (Accondy x Mistral Whisper). He is First Premium Graded by Scottish Sports Horse and has a phenomenal jump. He would be an ideal sire for people wishing to breed top class jumping horses and ponies.

All of our stallions are available by AI and natural service. All are fully licensed and have been tested clear for SCID (Severe Combined Immuno Deficiency) and CA (Cerebellar Abiotrophy).

Trailblazers

We are off to Stoneleigh to compete in the Trailblazers Show Jumping Championships on 28th & 29th July 2010. Ruby Shy, one of our 3rd generation home-bred horses, has qualified by winning all her first and second round classes. Ruby also qualified for the second round of the 2011 finals by winning both of her first round classes at the first attempt, going double clear each time. She was the only horse to do so in the 95cm class and she still had the fastest time! The second round qualifiers will be held March-May 2011.

Ruby featured in the June 2010 edition of The Arabian Magazine. She is half sister to our stallions Incandescent Flame and AKA Starbuck's Champagne Star.
Ruby has also just been affiliated to BSJA. She was unbeaten as a foal and was awarded a First Premium Grading by Scottish Sports Horse. She has already more than justified this grading by winning many jumping classes. Her speed and agility against the clock make her the one to beat and she has proven that the bloodlines of Performance Arabians are winning ones, not only in the show ring.

Jumping for less than two seasons, Ruby is the forerunner for Team Performance Arabians. The new kids on the block are the half-brothers by TP Starbuck, Laguna Flame and Starlight Dancing, who are about to start their own Trailblazers campaigns.
